provides a foundation in theprinciples of human performance and a broad overview of the field of human factors for advanced undergraduate and graduate students. The book, which is organized around the human as an information-processing system, introduces students to a range of human factors topices. The close relationship between basic research and theory is emphasized throughout the text, with a focus on methods, reasoning, and theories used by basic and applied researchers.

This third edition updates and expands the earlier editions taking into account the technological changes over the last nine years. While technology may change, the foundation for understanding human performance remains the same. This foundation allows us to address human factors issues in new and emerging technol-ogies from a coherent, process-oriented perspective. As such, our goal continues to be to provide students with the knowledge necessary to understand the range of human factors issues that may be encountered in the design, implementation, and evaluation of products and systems.
